Abstract

Local scour of hydraulic structures has a great influence on the design of these structures. Therefore, investigation of the flow and bed profile changes, affected by the presence of different structures is inevitable. In this paper, a three-dimensional Eulerian-Eulerian model is used to estimate the maximum scour depth downstream of hydraulic structures. By using open source software OpenFOAM and make appropriate capabilities for modeling of scour, model built and efficiency and weaknesses of Eulerian-Eulerian method is evaluated. Finite volume method is used for solving differential equations of sediment transport and flow field. the model has been developed by considering the parameters affecting the amount of scour and the use of two-phase flow equations. For construction of numerical model of fluid flow, a context of repeated speed-pressure is used. To verify the final results of the numerical results of laboratory research and researchers like Chatterjee, Liu and Van Rijn is used. The results showed that the method is appropriate to estimate the maximum scour depth.
