This paper presents the planning and management of energy hubs in integrated electrical and thermal networks. The proposed energy hub integrates renewable energy sources, including wind, solar, and biomass, alongside non-renewable resources such as boilers and combined heat and power (CHP) systems. Additionally, the hub incorporates electrical and thermal energy storage systems. The objective of the proposed plan is to minimize both the capital cost of generation and storage units within the energy hubs and the expected operational costs. This optimization is subject to the constraints of optimal power flow in electrical and thermal networks, as well as the planning and operational equations governing energy resources and storage devices within the hub. To account for uncertainties in load demand, renewable power generation, and energy prices, a scenario-based stochastic optimization approach is employed. Numerical results from various case studies demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed plan in enhancing the economic performance of energy hubs and improving the operational efficiency of energy networks. By determining the optimal size and location of resources and storage units within optimally located energy hubs, along with an optimized energy management strategy, the proposed approach improves network performance by approximately 23%–50% compared to traditional load flow studies. Specifically, it achieves reductions of approximately 23.2% in energy losses, 50% in maximum voltage drop, and 43.8% in temperature compared to conventional load flow analysis. These findings highlight the capability of the proposed framework to optimize the integration and operation of energy hubs within electrical and thermal networks.
