The joining of large structural panels always provides complications and inevitable compromises in performance. This study is concerned with T-joints subjected to transverse force and the behavior up to ultimate failure. The corresponding modes of failure at the joint are investigated by using contact elements and cohesive zone material models and a written macro code in the ANSYS software. ÙElement birth and dead ability was used in the written macro code. The key modes of failure include the debonding between the leg and base panel and core shear failure in the base panel. Accuracy of the present finite element analysis is established by comparing present results with the published ones. In general, the failure load predicted by the finite element method (FEM) is in good agreement as compared with the experimental results. Numerical results obtained through parametric variations are presented and discussed to understand the joint behavior. The effects geometry variations affecting joint strength and flexibility are also investigated.
